About the GM shifters (‘64-’72 A-Body cars)
Ok, so there’s a lot of discussion about shifter locations and shifter setup on the GM cars. This page is specifically dealing with the ‘64-’72 GM A-body cars.
The intent of this page is to assist you with installing a TREMEC TR-3550 5 speed into your car. It’s still a ‘work in progress’, so please stop back again sometime.
Special thanks to Dale McIntosh for helping with this information! See his website at www.team67.com
The 66/67 A-body cars have the shifter about 3” off-center towards the driver. The ‘68-’72 cars have the shifter centered in the tunnel. It's not so much that the shifter is to the side but I don't believe the console is as wide on the 66/67 models.

Hurst Comp Plus Shifters for Muncies:
64-67
shifter only - 391 7308
installation kit - 373 3163
68
shifter only - 391 8014
installation kit - 373 3163
69-72
shifter only - 391 8014
installation kit - 373 3874
Note the 68 uses the same shifter unit as the 69-72 but the same installation kit for 64-67. Early Muncie's used bolts to secure the shift arms to the trans while later ones used studs/nuts.
It’s also possible to use the 69-72 installation kit with a 64-67 shifter assembly. This would help you use a later transmission in an older car.
